The Effects of Soft Drink Consumption on Nutrition and Health
The American Journal of Public Health published a study titled "Effects of Soft Drink Consumption on Nutrition and Health: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis." The paper, which was published in 2011, includes a report with empirical data gathered through analysis.
Objective of the Study
The study aimed to see if there was a connection between soft drink consumption and nutrition and health outcomes.
Findings of the Study
The study establishes a connection between soft drink consumption and an increase in energy intake and body weight. The analysis was performed using longitudinal and experimental studies rather than cross-sectional studies. Furthermore, the study found that increased soft drink consumption reduces calcium, milk, and another nutrient intake. Consequently, it increases the risk of various health complications such as diabetes. Also, soft drink intake is the principal cause of obesity mostly in young children.
School Bans and Health Complications
As a result, schools located in Britain, France, and the United States have banned the consumption of soft drinks in their school premises. Moreover, intake of soft drinks leads to dehydration due to high sugar concentration. Also, a high level of soft drink in the body reduces physical activities, which contribute towards good health.
Conclusion
In conclusion, soft drink intake has a negative impact on the health of individuals. Since the study uses different sample characteristics and design, the research findings, in my opinion, might not be accurate and need further evidence.
