I will feel cheated if a coworker claimed credit for my thoughts. I will announce it to the appropriate authority, along with proof proving that those were my initial thoughts.
Plagiarism occurs where a text contains large amounts of copied material from another document that is not properly attributed to that source (Harris, 2017). In the academic community, this is a serious offense, and I will be harshly disciplined. As a result, my career will suffer, because I would not be able to learn from such a study, even though it included any of my ideas. Presenting an article for publication in a professional journal without properly citing it or paraphrasing it to the source is an academic fraud. The action amounts to plagiarism since I will be presenting another person’s ideas while pretending to be mine. If the same is detected, my article cannot be published since the publication can expose the organization owning the journal to court cases (Gaines, 2008). Additionally, I might be punished and prevented from ever contributing to the journal in the future.
When a person modifies the original ideas of someone else, there is a need of acknowledging the originator since he or she gave the foundation. Moreover, in a discussion, the originators of ideas need to be recognized by debaters when airing their views.
People do not make a big deal about the ownership of intellectual property or the originators of ideas. Owning intellectual property or coming up with new ideas is unique and hence these creative individuals deserve to be appreciated. Moreover, they contribute positively to the development of the society by injecting new ideas and innovative ways of doing things, so it is their right to be recognized.
