Consciousness is a country that can involve wakefulness or stages of sleep. Every day from time to time we have a tendency to think differently, things that we bear in mind and do not remember encompass in shifts of consciousness. Our level of alertness is determined by using the activities that take place round us at that very time. Consciousness also defines the awareness of our inside self, for example, when we feel pain, hunger, thirst, sleepy and being able to perceive our emotions and thoughts. Thought and behavior can additionally characterize wakefulness as a state of awareness in human. In the state of wakefulness, there are experiences like daydreaming, meditating, or even use of drugs that can characterize an individual staying awake for long hours. Often, one is never aware of his/her surrounding even if they are awake (Williams 20).
Recently, I have gone through various states of consciousness.
For instance, yesterday, as I was driving home from work, I was daydreaming, the traffic was crazy, and this resulted in an unusual case. I found myself thinking of how I could be a mechanic instead of taking the car to another expert, the next time I revive myself was when I heard hoots from behind me from other motorists, that is when I became alert. It took me thirty minutes after getting home to sleep because I was fatigued. After that is I found myself on the balcony in the middle of the night standing. Probably I was sleepwalking. Vividly, I went back to bed, and the next thing I heard was my alarm.
