code of conduct in a retail shop

The Violation of the Code of Ethics in a Retail Store

The allocated video depicts a violation of the code of ethics in a retail store. She is a 63-year-old lady captured on video stealing a box of Oreo cookies. As police arrived at her Lakeside house, her son was stunned, but he testifies that her mother took and faced felony robbery charges. She says her earnings are insufficient to cover snacks. It was she who had robbed from other marts on several occasions. The main issue in this video is a reflection of how employees infringe laws and acts. Stealing is a vice not only in the workplace but anywhere in any society or group of people. The Walmart must have a set of rules for the employees laying down the code of conduct in the places of work. Walmart serves the community by availing products and services to consumers and therefore any hindrance to its goals like employees stealing could affect its overall performance.

Conclusion

In conclusion, therefore, we can say that in any business type, morals and ethical principles should be practiced. Any enterprise must stipulate the underlying code of conduct for the employees and anybody within the business premises. Had Walmart specified clearly that theft cases would be charged with felony theft; maybe Penny Winters would have dreaded the worst and would not have stolen.

Argumentative

This video shows on the vice in business setting and the implications. The woman's act of stealing is repetitive until that moment she gets caught. It means that until a wrongful act is punishable in a workplace, the behavior may continue and probably spread to other employees. The punishment is intended to curb any different behavior against ethics to thrive.

Three Walmart Employees Charged With Manslaughter

The video reports on three individuals; two males and a female who are held responsible for the death of a thief. We see that the shoplifter stole some compact discs and the three chased him, pursued him and pounced on him. On getting to a hospital, it turned out that the shoplifter had 15 broken bones and he later succumbed. The three are then put to charge with manslaughter charges.

As evidenced in this video, even those outside the business premises can breach the laws of the proposition. However, it is not right to take the law into own hands and should be left to the relevant authorities to handle. It is Walmart’s social responsibility of taking care of its employees and protect against the external harm that may meet them in the course of duty. As such, therefore, the said shoplifter could have intrigued harm to Walmart’s workers or damage the property in or around the premise.

Business Ethics and the Responsibility of Walmart

Business ethics govern the existing laws of a state or a country (Knudsen et al. 81). Traders like Walmart must invest ethically in legal product and services for the benefit of customer satisfaction and its workers. In this case, therefore, it would have been ethical for Walmart to have security personnel on the premise or a security alarm system. The charged employees would not have found themselves in such situation.
