Childhood Exposure to Domestic Violence Has Casual Effects on People's Adult Aggression

It is clear that many children who are exposed to domestic abuse react to it by experiencing emotional, academic, and behavioral problems. This study's main goal is to discover and analyze how exposure to domestic violence as a child affects people's adult levels of hostility (Widom, & Wilson, 2015). Both quantitative and qualitative paradigms will be used in the research's sampling, data gathering, assessment, analysis, and designing. Apparently, through combining these research models, it will help in overcoming the challenges and weakness experienced from implementing a single paradigm. For this assignment, I will highlight the sampling method I will use and the perfect sampling steps that suit my research topic.

Sampling

Sampling refers to the procedure of identifying and selecting units such as organizations and people from a population of interest. The purpose of sampling is to help researchers to study a particular sample and generalize the results of the survey to the population in which the sample was chosen. A sample significantly helps a researcher to save money, effort, and time in generating a correct study. It is always difficult to evaluate a larger population, and it makes sense to use a smaller sample of a population as it permits the researcher to use resources better. The sample size for this research is thirty participants or respondents while the data was gathered using cluster sampling technique. The respondents selected are from three different prisons and 20-25 years of age. Additionally, the sample comprises of both male and female participants (Widom, & Wilson, 2015). Apparently, Cluster sampling is a sample design implemented when commonly harmonized yet internally mixed groupings are used in a statistical population. The population in a sampling plan is divided into clusters, and the random samples of the groups are chosen. My intention is to survey the effects of adults' aggression and violence because of childhood exposure to domestic violence from prisons to obtain my sampling population. The thirty respondents I selected were with the help of the prison attendants as they were the ones familiar with the prisoners. Further, I implemented the judgmental sampling techniques within the scope of my research. It is important to note that the judgmental sampling techniques are utilized in a special and unique situation of research; this method implements the judgment of the researcher in selecting the sample.

Moreover, the study applied the young person-centered because it is well applicable on a small size sample. For instance, one reason of using a small sample size is that the type of information I gathered is more detailed, and it permits the prisoners to be comfortable during the interview (Levy, & Lemeshow, 2013).Another reason for using this kind of approach and a small sample size for my research is to help me critically evaluate and compare the kind of abuse the prisoners when through that made them violent. To obtain my sample, I selected and divided the prisoners into clusters then the individual subjects using systematic random sampling. It was important using the cluster sampling technique in my research, as it was easy, quick, and cheap. Rather that sampling the entire prison, using the cluster sampling method helped me distribute and allocate my limited resources to the few groups I had selected. Further, the cluster sampling method permitted me to increase my sample size, as I continued with the research I realized that it was important to add five participants, as they were readily available and obtainable. On the other hand, the cluster sampling serves as the least representative of the population as the individuals within a particular group. With this, the cluster sampling can make the researcher to have an under-and-over-represented cluster that can distort and twist the findings and the data of the research. Lastly, another limitation with the cluster sampling technique is that it may show a high sampling mistake or error, which is brought by the use of limited clusters and thus leaving behind a significant part of the population not sampled.

Research Instruments

The research entailed using three types of research instruments, which are individual interviews questionnaires, and focus group discussion. For instance, the focus group discussion permitted the prisoners to open up, feel comfortable, and give more personal information as they felt that they were not the only ones who have were exposed to childhood domestic violence. On the other hand, the interviews and the questionnaires consisted of semi-structured questions where I used open-minded questions to permit the respondents to quickly answer the questions and participate comfortably during the interview (Levy, & Lemeshow, 2013). I also implemented young people centered approach since I wanted to handle and address the prisoners as skilled and experts of their experiences. In fact, this is imperative in the sense that it permits the respondents to be comfortable and quickly open up to the interviewer. The young people centered approach provided the respondents with a platform in which they air out their concerns, personal experiences, and worries that were built up through exposure to childhood domestic violence. Consequently, the research instruments I used helped me a high, and open relationship with the respondents.
