Apple: A Global Technology Corporation
For the purposes of this research, I'll use Apple as my model business. Apple is a global technology corporation that specializes in consumer electronics, software, and some internet services. Smartphones, laptops, servers, digital televisions, and portable video player players are among their hardware offerings. The company's main software is macOS and iOS. Resources included, on the other hand, include the iTunes Store, iCloud, and an app store on both Mac and iOS systems (Linzmayer, 2004).
The Evolution of Apple Inc.
Apple was created in 1976 with the primary goal of selling personal computers. It was renamed Apple Computer, Inc. at the time and it solely concerned with computers. Success and innovations became part of the company, and it shifted its focus to other consumer goods in the field of electronics and Softwares. For this reason, the company was rebranded as Apple Inc in the year 2007 so as to accommodate the whole range of products that had come into play. Apple has been ranked as the largest information technology company in the world, largest technology company as well as the second mobile phone manufacturer in the world with Samsung being the first in the ranking. Apple’s iTunes Store, which is a retail music Store, is the largest in the world. It is estimated that Apple customers use over a billion of its products worldwide and therefore it’s no doubt that, it is one of the biggest and successful corporations in the world. Apple was the pioneer in the computer industry and through it repeated input into the industry, she has managed to come up with interesting and world’s most valued products. She has significantly impacted in the fields of technology and innovation.
Apple's Mission Statement
Apple’s mission statement has been changing over time to accommodates for the market and organizational changes that it has been undergoing. In its recent statement, the company believes that it’s the face of the earth in making of world-changing products by using the simple things to manufacture the complex. The company’s management solemnly believes in owning and controlling all the technologies behind their products through focusing only on relevant and meaningful projects. Apple believes in nothing less than excellence in its undertaking which is embedded within the organization.
The Importance of a Mission Statement
The information contained in a mission statement of a company is very crucial because other than helping its employees maintain a competitive strategy, and it also shows the direction the company is taking in terms of growth and development. In this case, the mission statement above indicates that the workers or management of Apple has to be innovative each and every day so as to be the world leader in technology. It suggests what needs to be done so as to assure the success of the company (Fritsch, 2011).
Organizational Structure of Apple
The organization structure of apple company has been changing with time depending on who is the Chief Executive Officer, (C.E.O). During the times of Steve Jobs, a hierarchical structure was observed. Almost everything went through him including major decisions. Under the current president, Tim Cook, the hierarchical structure has changed into a functional-based grouping one. Every manager handles a business function, and in this case, the top leaders address the needs of the company in terms of functional fields.
