Elaboration for the Decision Tree

When a nurse is faced with a situation, he or she will respond by describing the act. He/she will further determine if what he/she intends to do adheres to the Nursing Practice Act. If the act adheres to the Nursing Practice Act, he/she will progress to see if he/she has the required additional education or the specialized education, but if the act does not correspond to Nursing Practice Act, the nurse will be forced to stop. Given the nurse possess the required additional or specialized education required, he/she further be required to determine if the act lays within his/her scope of practice (Marquis and Huston, 2009). If the act lays within his scope of practice, he or she will further be required to determine if he or she possesses the required knowledge, but is the required act does not correspond to a nurse scope of practice, he/she will be forced to stop. If the nurse possesses the required knowledge, he or she will further determine if he/she is competent enough, if he/she is not, he will be forced to stop the act, but if he/she is competent enough, he/she will be required to be reasonable and prudent as per the act. If he/she is not reasonable and prudent, he/she will have no otherwise but just to stop. On the other hand, if he/she is reasonable or prudent, he/she will be required to determine if he is accountable, if he/she is accountable, he/she can proceed to perform the practice, but if he does not meet this criterion, he/she will be forced to stop. Even though this decision looks simple, the entire nursing practices lay within this decision scope (Marquis and Huston, 2009).
