American Lit Social Realism

Battle prayer is a criticism of war and how people use patriotism and faith as motivators. The poem criticizes how people pray to Heaven for their troops while forgetting the second prayer they wished but did not voice loudly; the prayer of massive devastation and pain for their enemies. Citizens remain perplexed as to how conquerors impose misery on war-torn nations. It criticizes how people live in distress with problems and do not share their problems because no one can understand when we hold in our hearts until we share. Part II. Mending wall poem talks about two men who were neighbors. Who meet and decided to build a wall between them to ensure a quality relationship among themselves. It enables them to maintain their individuality and personal identity as farmers. As years go by, the walls seem to be falling, but the farmers keep repairing the walls. It shows the power of masculinity which they tried to put in place. (Frost, 2017) The yellow wallpaper it's important to realize not only that John’s wife is suffering from depression, but also the kind of depression she's experiencing. The mention of the new-born child she is not allowed to see leads to the assumption that she is enduring postpartum depression. It shows the theme of sexism in this story. She is also unable to meet her roles as a mother to her kid and think she is “trapped in the wallpaper.” (Gilman, 2010)
