E-commerce has experienced unprecedented growth and revolution in recent years. It has taken over the market and posed a significant threat to traditional brick-and-mortar retailers. E-commerce has grown in popularity as a result of powerful online tools and the development of quicker internet connectivity. One could claim that the quick expansion of e-commerce is due to the removal of geographical restrictions in the corporate world. Furthermore, e-commerce has simplified the purchasing and selling process as well as the search for products. In this sense, a consumer can select things from several sources without having to physically walk around. However, after all the online commerce generated over the years, the many traditional brick-and-mortars are having a comeback. The question is, “will this brick-and-mortar comeback be sustainable?”


Traditional Retailers Turn to Brick-and-Mortar


Amazon and E-bay have been dominant online shopping players for quite some time. However, it seems that e-commerce has become crowded and expensive. In the last few years, more than 20 online companies in the United States have launched a physical presence by getting back to the brick-and-mortar stores. The reason they have done so is to forge closer customer relations, to boost online traffic sales and to better market their wares. In November 2015, Amazon, the undisputed king of e-commerce, opened its first brick-and-mortar extension in Seattle and promised to open more. The move was a notable one especially for a company known for experimentation. Other online companies that followed suit include Bonobos, Casper, Warby Parker and Birchbox clothing stores. This trend illustrates that traditional brick-and-mortars are having a comeback. I bet this comeback will be sustainable since the major e-commerce players have been the first ones to get back to brick-and-mortars, and the others will have to follow. The comeback will be sustainable since the brick-and-mortar stores will help them increase customer awareness and draws them in a realm. For these reasons, the brick-and-mortar comeback will be sustainable.
