An absence culture and its impact
An absence culture is defined as an organizational culture in which a specific degree of employee absenteeism is tolerated as the standard. While individuals would prefer to work in an organization with a culture of absence, attendance is one of the most prized work ethics by employers. As a result, firms implement an absence policy that includes expectations, rules, and punishments for employee absenteeism. Attendance has an impact on all elements of business and the workplace. Absence policies are critical because they assist employees in adhering to work schedules, starting their work on time, and staying on the job to guarantee they accomplish their obligations.
Impact on employees and the organization
According to the scenarios, scenario 2, which is about absence policy, is more beneficial for organizations to practice. This is because the absent worker affects the clients of the organization as well as the colleagues at the job place. As shown in scenario 1, Krista calls off from work because it is her birthday without expecting any repercussions from her employer. As a result, this might create more work for her co-workers or even leave significant work unattended to. At the end, if an absent culture is encouraged in an organization, it becomes habitual for the employees to be absent, which can disrupt production schedules. In scenario 1 B, Robert is feeling very tired and decides not to go to work because the employer does not have a problem about it. If every employer that feels tired is allowed to act as Robert, an organization faces the issue of poor attendance that can result in loss of productivity and customers, thereby affecting the profits and earnings of the company (Dalton & Mesch,1991).
The benefits of an absence policy
An Organization that has absence policy benefits more than others that have absence culture because the set policy helps the organization to establish professional expectations for the workers and provide them with a formal structure used to reprimand those that repeatedly fail to comply. The absence policy in an organization motivates the workers to go to work as scheduled and attend to their assigned duties without leaving them for other co-workers (Martocchio, 1994).
