About Team Learning

A team of ten people will participate in this exercise. The secretary and leader will each be one of them. The team will concentrate on more effective ways to protect the environment.
The selection of the team's secretary and leader will be one of the first tasks. The team will then move on to laying down the tasks that must be completed in order to accomplish the final goal. The secretary will be responsible for seeing that the stated goals are accomplished within the allotted period. The group must come up with solutions for problems that will be chosen for usage in systems thinking. Team learning refers to endeavors of individuals who came up together to achieve a certain goal. Team learning is different individual learning as it calls for the sharing of thoughts and ideas. This richness becomes important as it facilitates a more effective problem-solving strategy. Team learning is the most effective when individual members have high cognition ability and the workload is distributed equally. It is affected negatively if the team members high in agreeableness with either functional or divisional structure rather than in a paired structure. (Ellis & Moon H., 2003).

Systems thinking is a clear comprehension of a certain system by means of examining the apparent interactions among its components. Such discipline provides means by which a system can be analyzed and easily understood. An examination of the interactions among the constituent components of a system gives a great deal of insight into ways in which the system can be made better or be maintained at a smooth working condition. In our case, the environment as a whole will make up our system. We will focus on dealing with aspects of the environment that can be handled in a certain way, to make the environment better. In other words, we will be working on ways by which we can conserve the environment.

For the selected team, I have chosen the discipline of environmental conservation. It is important as human beings take care of the environment to avoid a number of adverse effects that are more likely to happen nowadays.

During the session, I want my team to learn the ways through which an individual can take responsibility and care for the environment. For example, one exercise will be to divide the team into two groups and have each group to collect litter around the community and to plant a few trees.

Post-session summary

During the session, we examined the ideas on how to take care of the environment to avoid degradation. The points raised by the team members were noted down. Members paid attention to the immediate problems that the environment as a system faced. Some suggested that too many trees had been cut down in the recent years so it is important to plant some new trees.

It was suggested that members meet at a particular meeting place to demonstrate how the environment can be conserved. Tree-planting was one of the tasks. It was also agreed that the group would be divided into two parts and each part will be assigned a different task. One group participated in litter collection while the other mainly did the tree-planting.

Each member of the team did some good work to help the team achieve the objectives that had been set. Some members proved useful in giving out suggestions whenever the leader asked.
