About Georges Seurat

French painter George Seurat was instrumental in developing impressionist painting techniques. The above-mentioned artist, according to Art Story (1), was particularly interested in the technique of pointillism because it involved the manipulation of light through minute brushstrokes of a different set of contrasting colors, contributing to the enhancement of the aesthetic qualities of pictures. Neo-impressionism rose as a result of other artists' intense interest in using the pointillism technique when processing photographs. Scholars opine that Seurat opposed the use of a single color to depict an object and instead preferred the use of several colors that interacted to generate the specific appearance of a given object (Anarson & Elizabeth 44). Precisely, according to Seurat, the application of single color while painting was a form of poetry instead of science, which the impressionists needed to avoid.
